Project Summery.

During lockdown, we had to suspend NEPHRA’s much loved Lunch Club.  We did not want our local residents to miss out on a healthy, home cooked meal though, so we replaced it with our Meals on Wheels Service.  This new addition was a great success and we were preparing and delivering 120 nutritious three course meals throughout the pandemic.

With normal lunch club services now able to resume, we have taken the decision to continue our  Meals on Wheels Service for those service users who are unable to get out and about and it will now run alongside our regular timetable.

All meals are freshly prepared on-site, and then delivered locally by our team of volunteers, using produce grown on our own NEPHRA Allotment.

Clients have a choice of two menus every week, each encompassing a starter, main course and a desert.  Examples of our menu are:

Starters

Leek & Potato Soup

Cream of Mushroom Soup

Roasted Red Pepper & Tomato Soup

Main Courses

Roast Chicken Dinner

Cottage Pie & Vegetables

Lasagne & Garlic Bread

Deserts

Fruit Crumble & Custard

Sticky Toffee Pudding

Poached Pears & Cream

We are able to cater to Diabetic, Gluten Free and Vegetarian dietary requirements and we welcome feedback and new menu requests.

Menus are seasonal, to allow us to make the best use of the produce from our allotment and clients can order more than one meal, which can then be frozen and eaten at a later date.

We have had fantastic feedback from our service users, who said things like:

“The meals are the best part of the week. I can never thank NEPHRA enough for all the work they do”

Not only do we deliver to our own NEPHRA clients, we have been working in partnership with other local organisations to increase the reach of our Meals on Wheels Scheme.
